Overview

A collection of unrelated legal documents from different countries and other political entities in continental Europe, dating from approximately the 1300s to the early 1800s. Documents come from Germany, Austria, the Holy Roman Empire, Iberia, Italy, France, Belgium, and unknown geographic locations.

Overview 172 documents (and similar papers) bound in 1 volume: architectural, urban planning, government, history. Proclamations, financial accounts, letters, contracts, narratives, and official documents issued by or concerning this planned city. Most are from the reign of Vespasiano Gonzaga, Sabbioneta's duke (1531-1591) who turned a village 12 miles SW of Mantua into a model city, and most are concerned with the construction of public buildings, especially the Porta Vittoria, the Porta Imperiale,...

Overview Fragments and scraps of manuscripts, including texts, letters, sheet music, and other items. These items were removed from book bindings of books held by the Kenneth Spencer Research Library in the Special Collections. Fragments were typically removed from those bindings when the Library sent items out for conservation or rebinding in the mid-20th century. Marilyn Stokstad joined the Art History faculty at the University of Kansas in 1958 and led the department in several roles before earning emerita status as the Judith Harris Murphy Distinguished Professor of Art History. This collection of her papers includes notes, chapters, and proofs for the textbook Art History, family history and photographs, personal and professional correspondence, and reports and notes related to the University of Kansas.

Overview This manuscript account book was apparently kept by the steward of a monastic house belonging to the religious order of the Ospitaliere di Santo Spirito. The entries for the purchase and sale of lambs, lambskins, pigeons, timber and grain are dated 1645-1650 and establish the location as the Puglia region of Italy. The collection includes several photographs, personal and professional letters, and other writings by authors, artists, American presidents, nobility, royalty, and other notable persons from the United States, British Isles, and Continental Europe, compiled by Robert B. Riss. English translations for some of the writings in other languages are included, as well as some labels and bookseller information.
